Hi ,
Thankkkkkkkkkkkkkksssssssssss a lotttt. I am having Sony Vaio CS... I have just followed whatever mentioned in your mail. It really works. " You have to searche the following file: C:\Windows\system32\BtwVdpCapFilter.dll than you have to rename the file into: C:\Windows\system32\BtwVdpCapFilter1.dll " But, the default bluetooth device option has gone and webcam: Sony visual communication camera is appearing. regards RajRenu |

I was having same issue in a slightly different way. I have a custom machine with ASUS mobo. Could not access vid at all while trying to make vid call or going into 'Video settings' via Tools -> Options. Application would just crash. Been waiting a couple of months hoping for a patch. I think the current webcam device was somehow set wrong and is invalid and Skype just crashes on it. Mine is 'ASUS GSB' but there is no way to change it. I wasn't able to determine where in the registry or in any local files this setting was stored.
BTW... there is no BtwVdpCapFilter.dll found on Vista 64, so prior workaround doesn't work on Vista 64. Latest update version of Skype after updates just now is 4.1.0.166. After updates, now instead of crash, I get a nice red 'Unknown error' in the middle of the vid when going into vid settings via Tools -> Options -> Video Settings. The good thing is that the app doesn't immediately crash and I can finally select from a known working webcam on my system--I would hope this would work for everyone else too. I suggest downloading the latest skype patch/updates now to fix the problem, esp on Vista 64. Thank you for fixing this issue, guys. |

on my windows 7 rc 32 bit the dll file is in C:\Program Files\WIDCOMM\Bluetooth Software. renaming it removes the bluetooth webcam from Skype.

I had exactly the same problem as the WAIO users; skype crashed whenever i tried to change the video setting from the bluetooth camera to the inbuilt webcam. I tried all the other downloads and still couldn't get it to work (i mean the older versions), but Helpfully's advice on changing the file name worked as soon as I reopened the programme.

I have a sony Vaio VGN-Z26GN same problem as the person that started the topic. I did not find the thread until after I had fixed the problem.
My solution was not to rename or delete .dll files. I manually edited the SKYPE config.xml file found in the SKYPE folder in the AppData section in Windows Vista. Under the Video section change the Bluetooth Video to the non-bluetooth device found under <HQVideoDevices> ie: Bluetooth Video is changed to: Sony Visual Communication Camera Then Find the following line <_0>Bluetooth Video</_0> <_1>Sony Visual Communication Camera</_1> Set the Bluetooth Video to 1 and the Sony camera to 0 <_1>Bluetooth Video</_1> <_0>Sony Visual Communication Camera</_0> Then save the file and run SKYPE again. What this does is it sets the SKYPE video cam to the Vaio's video cam instead of the bluetooth camera. This should be able to be selected under SKYPE/options/Video Settings and select webcam. But when it had bluetooth video selected SKYPE would crash before letting me select the sony webcam. Hope this helps somebody. |

OK, I still have the stupid problem. I found uninstall new version and I installed 4.0.0.226. The problem didn't go away. Then I checked the config.xls and the Video Device entry is correct:
<HQVideoDevices> <_0>Chicony USB 2.0 Camera</_0> </HQVideoDevices> Also, when I go to tools/options/video setting I see the correct camera version and I can see myself OK. What else can I do? Still when I make a simple call workds fine, but when I make a video call it freezes and then stops and kicks me out of the program. Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease help!!!!!!!!!! Theodora |

I had the same problem with a Vaio TT180C.
I am pleased to say that editing the config.xml file fixed the problem perfectly! Thanks very much for that great solution. AdiJ didn't you read my post? I have looked at the config.xlm file and I do have the right flags for my video device, but still no luck. I have done every suggestion in this post and still nothing.
PROBLEM PERSISTS AND I AM VERY PISSED... I THINK I AM GIVING UP ON STUPID SKYPE... Also, I don't understand why skype didn't reply to any of the messages sent automatically to them... it seems this is a common error for many users... |

DON'T BUY A TOSHIBA LAPTOP IF YOU INTEND TO UTILIZE THE WEBCAM!!! IT WILL GIVE YOU THE BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH AND CRASH AND RESTART YOUR COMPUTER EVERY 5 MINUTES OR SO!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just use Google and you can see that the problem has existed for more than a year and it still has not been fixed . . . but they still have the Skype video sticker on their laptops!!! Toshiba DOES NOT even have the capability of fixing the problem according to at least 3 technicians and a person from CUSTOMER support!!! "Customer" support???!!! Really?!!! They WILL NOT refund your money even though they have that Skype VIDEO sticker attached right next to the webcam basically telling the consumer that if you buy this laptop, you can use Skype video!!! I told the customer support representative that the sticker was basically a lie . . . false advertising used to sway consumers to buy a product that can't even deliver what's implied! I will NEVER buy a Toshiba product again!!!!!!! I don't care if it's a DVD player, TV or any other Toshiba device!!! Basically, Toshiba's response is thank you for your hard-earned money, but what we advertised doesn't work . . . too bad!!! Furthermore, you can't get it fixed NOR can you get a refund for a defective product!!! . . . nor, will we refund the extended warranty that you purchased!!! Buy a HP, a Lenovo, an Acer or even a Dell instead!! |

Can someone please help me? I am so severely irritated I am about to give up. My hubby is deployed and we use this to talk back and forth and without the video it just isn't the same. I have the latest skype version on my laptop. I have Vista. PLEASE HELP!! My built in webcam works fine with everything else. Thanks!
