Hi,
Am I the only person to get this number? Rob -----Original Message----- From: Skype [mailto:noreply@welcome.skype.com] Sent: Wednesday, November 21, 2007 4:00 PM To: Rob Subject: Change to your London SkypeIn number Change to your London SkypeIn number Hello We're very sorry to tell you that we have to change your SkypeIn number. As some of you may know, we get SkypeIn numbers from a variety of telecoms suppliers. Unfortunately, we have to return some of the 0207 SkypeIn numbers to one of our suppliers of London numbers. This means your number will stop working from December 20th 2007. We realise the inconvenience this will cause you, and sincerely apologise. That's why we're going to give you a new SkypeIn number and voicemail - free for 12 months on us - to thank you for your patience and to help make the changeover as painless as possible for you. Please make sure you redeem your voucher before December 20th 2007 SkypeIn Number Skype User Name 12 Month Voucher Code 0207870xxxx Mine xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Your next step: activate your new number. Before December 20th 2007 activate your new SkypeIn number. We suggest you do this as soon as you can. 1. Visit http://welcome.skype.com/cgi-bin15/DM/y/xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 2. Log in and enter the SkypeIn voucher code above. Due to changes in the capital's number plan there is a limited availability of 0207 numbers and we cannot guarantee that you will find a 0207 number to replace your existing one. However, we have plenty of 0208 numbers and 0203 numbers which OFCOM has introduced to cover the whole of Greater London. If you have any questions, feel free to contact our customer advisors directly at sichange@skype.net. We've also created a step-by-step guide to help you redeem your voucher and choose your new SkypeIn number. http://welcome.skype.com/cgi-bin15/DM/y/xx...xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx The (really, really sorry) people at Skype ______________________________________________________________________ Help for Skype http://welcome.skype.com/cgi-bin15/DM/y/xx...xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx I forgot my password http://welcome.skype.com/cgi-bin15/DM/y/xx...xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Terms of Service http://welcome.skype.com/cgi-bin15/DM/y/xx...xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Account settings http://welcome.skype.com/cgi-bin15/DM/y/xx...xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx © 2003-2007 Skype Limited. I got it too and had to migrate from an 0207 to 0208 number. The migration was easy enough but I'm annoyed because my 0207 number was good through April 12, 2009 and the new 0208 number is good through November 21, 2008 so it appears that I've lost money on this forced switch over. I've sent a support ticket to skype to see what they say, if anything.

I got it as well.
My other half works in the telco industry and she doesnt think this is legal. Ofcom allows for number portability with all non network phone services so just because Skype doesnt want to pay for the numbers doesnt mean they can take them away. I have already told them to shove the offer as they have entered into a contract of supply which they will be breaching. Will be interesting to see what they say and also what Ofcom thinks "That's why we're going to give you a new SkypeIn number and voicemail - free for 12 months on us - to thank you for your patience and to help make the changeover as painless as possible for you." And that free year is going to cover the costs of new business cards, stationary etc etc yeah right. |

I just got the same thing - it LOOKS like a spoof - so I changed my password IMMEDIATELY - the PROBLEM I'm having is that I can't contact ANYONE - if I log in and try the voucher they give you - it doesn't work - if I go to the HELP to enter a new help item - it says I'm not logged in. I've tried this with the browser cleared down and all cookies removed - I simply can't seem to contact anyone at SKYPE about this.
And you're right- it is a DISASTER that needs a hell of a lot more than a free subscription - a new set of business cards would be good right off the block - I've just had a complete set made - not to mention the fact that everyone and their aunties has my existing 0207 number on my email signature - it'll take a YEAR or more to get everyone to update their details. |

My voucher is invalid as well.. pretty annoying to hear the news.. read all the appologies only to find out that the suggested ´sorry´is not working and you have to spend 20 minuts on the help-page and this forum to see if someone can help you.. so that you can actually get a new number before all 0208-s are taken..

I got the email this morning.
I entered my voucher code after visiting the url in the email and I got "Voucher not found". The offer is far from reasonable anyway in my opinion considering I would need to have all my stationary reprinted if I chose to accept the offer. Given I cannot even use the voucher and I am going to lose the number I paid for in December this year because Skype has chosen to stitich up their existing client base I think it fair to say that the relationship is over. What I don't get is why stuff your existing customers who have had their numbers for some time? Shouldn't this affect only new customers not those who already have a number? I have several Skype in numbers and lucky for me I managed to get numbers with the last 4 digits the same for each Skype In number I have in different countries. Might not sound like much but for me I was extremely pleased because it adds continuity for my business. I too shall be contacting Ofcom regarding this issue to find out where I stand legally. On top of that, I will not recommend the Skype product to anyone else as a viable alternative to the traditional telephone because of the obvious instability and unreliability of the company. My custom over several years has been taken or granted. Bye bye Skype. |

QUOTE(girlperson1 @ Wed Nov 21 2007, 21:05) Yes, I know, just had to cough up $30 for new business cards. You think you've got problems....I've just had to pulp a mailshot to 3,000 people, already stuffed, stamped and ready to go, with first class stamps stuck on, that's a grand in stamps alone. I hearing rumours that a company called GCI Telecom/Pathfinder Telecom Ltd has our Skype numbers but on speaking to a Skype representative this evening (who initially told me she didn't have a Skype in number...then said it would be expensive to call for me as it's not a UK number and finally admitted she didn't want to give it out) stated - "I cannot give you the name of the company that supplied Skype with the range 020 7870 as it is commercially sensitive" Hmmmm looks like this Skype bunch really did come down in the last shower. I am trying to find out if...
1) Skype have a duty of care to port my number to another provider 2) If I can get an automated message on the current number telling callers the new number 3) Lastly, I'm not even trying the voucher until I am ASSURED this will NEVER happen again My view has just gone from Skype being a 10 out of 10 supplier to being a complete and utter ZERO. LATER EDIT... [snipped out the stuff about Telia] Skype's supplier of the number is CGI. Talk to GCI on 01202 587800, it is not Telia that you need to speak to. OFCOM has got to be interested in this. On their site ofcom.org.uk they recognise that Skype is the biggest provider of VOIP numbers in the UK. I too am in the same boat of having the number cancelled etc, and the voucher not being recognised etc.
Does anyone know if the sichange@skype.net email address is valid? looks suspicious as the rest are .com addresses. I got my number via skype pro, so I am wondering how this offer sits in with that subscription? do they reduce my subscription accordingly? I very much doubt it... all seems very suspect if you ask me. Tony |

QUOTE(ivebeenskyped @ Thu Nov 22 2007, 16:21) Skype - Take a deep breath.... "Because this is going to to hurt" this should be the new motto. Skype - 'Take a deep breath - because we're going to kick you in the b*llocks' more like. Erm, is somenone from Skype listening? Are you insane? People depend on these numbers. They came to you because they thought they could trust you. And..... hey ho. You don't give a sh*t, do you? You should feel ashamed. 10,000 people will now vote with their feet. I spend on average £20 a month with Skype. So, based on that average, Skype will be losing, over the next year, 20 x 12 x 10,000 = 2.4million pounds. You daft people. You're making a loss for your parent company, Ebay, and now due to your short term greed you'll be losing 2.4million a year - not to mention 10,000 people's business. I think that BT will be having a busy month signing everyone back up! Who's running the company?? Don't tell me..... is it Steve McLaren? Or, maybe it's the same guy who lost the HM Revenue and Customs discs? Or even Stevie Wonder? Whoever is running the company needs a reality check. Stupid - just plain stupid. QUOTE(Péter @ Thu Nov 22 2007, 12:24) skype.net addresses are valid skype email addresses. SKYPE - READ THIS. How about if someone were to get in touch with the Domain Name Registrants, and stake a claim for 'Skype.com'. Then, you'd complain 'we've had all our branding done to match Skype.com - how will our customers find us?' Well, that's what you've just done to 10,000 PAYING CUSTOMERS!!!!!!!! Now, you've got something silly like 8million users. BUT - how many people actually pay for Skype calls? Well, 10,000 people wont be paying you anything from now on, will they? SKYPE - HOW WOULD YOU LIKE IT IF YOUR SUPPLIER PULLED YOUR DOMAIN NAME WITH 3 WEEKS NOTICE???? THAT"S WHAT YOU"VE DONE TO US - ALBEIT WITH PHONE NUMBERS. |

Hi all,
This does seem like a sad state of affairs, and I am glad that this does not affect me. I have worked in BT for 15 years and for various private telco's since, in the position of adviser/ BT Coordinator. I hope the info I add here will be useful to someone. Someone mentions Skype porting the numbers to another provider. My feeling is from the announcement that has been posted here is that Skype DO NOT in fact own the numbers in question. It is very possible that Skype has entered a FREE rental agreement for these numbers and the continuing provision of these numbers is based on performance i.e. revenue generated for the supplier. If it is indeed a fixed term contract then the provider is obliged to uphold the terms of the contract for the full duration of the contract or pay remedial damages for breach. The same applies to Skype, however it must be noted that your agreement with Skype may be subject to foreign legal systems. My advice regardless of the outcome of this fiasco would be to go to a non-geographic supplier such as GTI Telecom and have an 0845 or 0870 number directed to whatever Skype In number you choose. GTI Telecom numbers are free unless you want a 'golden number' and they appear to be tolerant of low revenue numbers too (or at least they have been tolerant of mine - I forward it to my personal number). I do not work for GTI Telecom, and there are many other providers out there. But they are simply one of the best in my opinion when you move away from BT for supplying your numbers. Ian |

Skype is for keeping in touch with family back home if you have emmigrated it is not for business despite their marketing. It is not regulated in any way by telecom authorities in many countries and can pretty much do as it pleases as we have just found out. edited to add: I have not bothered with their free voucher either despite them now adding 2 free numbers and call credit to the " deal " . The people who run skype cant be so stupid as to think they maintain business credibility and its my belief that they have taken a decision to have an " as is product " with people " taking or leaving it ". Is anyone of you a lawyer?
Let's make A NOMINATED COMPLIANT. I am offered to declare. Who will join me? Let's unite our voices. As many of us sign it as much more difficult to REMAIN HIDDEN. That noise would be definitelly affect the price of the Skype stock. Our anger should not remain hidden. WE MUST NOT TOLERATE NONE TO TAKE OUR NUMBERS! These smiling guys, haven't learned in university, the respect to the people who pay their salaries. The only who can teach them R E S P E C T is only the price of the Skype stock. Let's drop it. Let's make a NOMINATED COMPLIANT. The justice must be interest. THE PRESS MUST BE INTEREST. ALL SKYPE USERS MUST BE AWARE THAT ONE DAY, SKYPE WILL COME AND TAKE THEIR NUMBERS! |

I have been trying to get my 0207 870**** number to work for a while now. I have reported it to Skype customer service and they tell me to do this and do that, check my fire wall, refer to my ISP to see if they block calls etc etc... nothing has fixed it. Then, I see these messages about Skype withdrawing the numbers.
Please can you tell me if it works or not. I have wasted alot of time following Skype customer servise instructions and it still does not work. I pay for this service - I expect it to work |
