Cannot pay with linked Paypal account...

When I attempt to Buy Skype Credit using my linked Paypal account, all goes well until I log into my Paypal account, after which it prompts me to "Add a Credit or Debit Card". Why? I am no longer able to simply fund my Skype account with monies from my Paypal account like I used to. Is anyone else facing this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

In order to use PayPal to purchase Skype products your PP account needs to be linked to a CC or DC.
This is used for ID and back-up funding requirements (if necessary).
Your existing funds in your PP account will be used - not your CC.

Moderators/Skype staff will NEVER
ask you for your password nor your full credit card number. The only places you are asked for your password are when you sign into Skype or on the website if you want to make a purchase or check your account.
If we ask for credit card details only the first 4 and last 4 digits are required.

Hi I am also having the same problem however my paypal account is already linked to a verified checking account (has been for a long time) and I have had no problem making payments from it in the past and have never been asked for this before.

My skype in number is expiring in only 6-7 days and I need to get this resolved asap.

Thanks.

Unfortunately you must link your PayPal account to your credit card as explained above in order to purchase Skype products even if it is already linked to your checking account.

I never had to link them before as far as I'm aware.

Regardless - how am I going to pay? I don't have a credit card to link to the account. (I really don't - I have no credit cards.... I just have my linked and verified checking account and want to give you my money - please make it easy for me to give you my money or I will have to discontinue using your services)

The requirements regarding paying for Skype products has recently changed.
As advised you now need to link youur PP account to your CCard.
If you don't have a credit card it will be necessary to use an alternative payment method, I'm afraid.

I have exactly the same problem for THE FIRST TIME. I wanted to pay from my paypal account TODAY but it tells me: "....To complete your purchase, please add a new credit card or debit card...."

But I HAVE NO CREDIT CARD !!! I have PAYPAL ONLY, I have no Credit Card and never want one!

Does that mean the end of Skype for everyone who has no Credit Card? Well goodbye Skype then, I look for another company angry.png

Anyone has alternatives?

Ok. So I went out surfing the net to search for another VOIP-company who would allow me to pay with PAYPAL because I have no Credit Card and don't want one.

To my surprise I found out only now, that Ebay OWNS both Skype and Paypal!
Given their capitalistic attitude I would think that PAYPAL would not want to cooperate with any other VOIP-Company than Skype.

So I don't even bother asking the question if there is another VOIP-company that takes my money via PAYPAL....

So what we got now? PAYPAL ONLY with Skype...... and Skype ONLY with Credit Card....and Credit Card ONLY with risks, fees and worries?

Bah! I am looking for a VERY different approach to have decent VOIP.

"Your existing funds in your PP account will be used - not your CC."

Gosh, why not just use my "VERIFIED" paypal account. - Why is a verified paypal account not enough if it's linked to a checking account instead of a CC?

Hi, thanks again for the frustration....
A) Could you please be more helpful and LIST some ALTERNATIVE PAYMENT METHODS instead of just suggesting that I use them.

B) Could somebody over at Skype realize this is a hair brained policy change and take a look at the number of users complaining about it - and then multiply that by 10 for the number of users who are just fed up and don't bother voicing their complaints but rather move on to other services.

I'm thoroughly aggravated at these pointless new billing changes.
The whole system worked fine before and was nice and easy. Now anyone who opts not to have credit cards is S.O.L? Great plan.... really great.

Answers:
1. My post reflects the current PayPal policy on Skype purchases.
2. Here is the link to alternative payment methods: http://support.skype.com/index.php?_a=know...ails&_i=351
It's in the Knowledgebase.

Looks like I am going to switch from PAYPAL to Moneybookers.

Does that mean I can use MONEYBOOKERS linked to my normal bank account like i could use PAYPAL (linked with normal bank account) to pay Skype before? No need for Credit Card with Moneybookers?

Anyone had good or bad experiences with Moneybookers?. Or is there a better alternative in Europe?

As far as I know the answer is ''yes'' - it is not required to link your MB account to your CC but check with MB to be certain.

This question bothered me for a few days and I had never received any policy change notice from Skype regarding to the PayPal at the beginning of 2008.

In deed you can show your customers that your policy is you can "change terms without notice", that is ture. However, I am really frustrated with this PayPal & CC issue as Skype is trying to refuse those who do not have Credit Card, worst but not least, you collect the CC details for nothing related to the payment of SkypeOut.

There is a way to bypass this ridiculous attempt of Skype
First go to your paypal and change your primary email address..

Skype has sync your paypal email address to transfer money. Once you change this then you can pay with paypal...

Good luck

You can't.
Changing your e-mail address will have no effect.
Irrespective of which address you use you still must provide PPal with your c/card details for ID purposes.

http://gizmo5.com/pc/ - Gizmo project

Open Source alternative, with cheaper rates.
Call quality is good to OK, I can't compare it to Skype's call quality to phone and as Skype now require Paypal to have a CC then I never will be able to compare it.

Gizmo allow adding credit from Paypal without CC.

This is especially bogus... skype is owned by paypal and ebay--but I can pay for this service using my paypal funds generated from ebay sales? what the heck are they trying to do? It amounts to false advertising-- I signed up so I could pay with paypal quick and easy.. this is a total dealbreaker.

Skype is not owned by PayPal.
Skype is an independant company - a member of the e-Bay Group - and registered in Luxembourg.
You can use your own PayPal funds to pay for Skype goods/services.
PayPal require your credit card details not for funding purposes but as ID.

"You can use your own PayPal funds to pay for Skype goods/services.

I am currently using Paypal happily with no credit card linked to it. The reason is security: If anyone were to hack our PP password, the max they could spend is the PP balance. We used to use current PP balance to top up Skype, which was just dandy.

Suddenly, when I attempt to top up Skype via PP it asks me to associate my Credit Card with Paypal (not with Skype). It is not crystal clear, but I assume that this will allow future purchases via PP to be deducted direct from Credit Card (what I do NOT want).

Paypal and Skype are, AFAIK, owned by the same Group:
"Paypal is the online payment unit of eBay ...Skype, the eBay-owned voice-over-IP company" see http://www.redherring.com/Home/24505

[ EDITED ] Wait... I notice that the top up procedure auto checked the Auto Top Up option (a bit cheeky?). When I noticed this and un-checked it, then again clicked proceed to pay by Paypal, IT WORKED!

So I think that many people's confusion MIGHT be that with this Auto Top Up option checked, THEN a PP Credit Card association is needed (which is a bit more understandable). Since no warning message appears to guide you, this is poor marketing indeed!
