I also bought a thumbtack microphone, and am having the exact same problem with a 2nd gen ipod touch with iphone OS 3.0. The speakerphone button doesnt do anything besides fade out the menu every time i try to press it. Good job on whoever programmed that fade-in/fade-out menu, it looks good... BUT IT DOESNT WORK

help please.
I have an Ipod touch 1st gen running OS 2.2.1. I have just got a microphone/speaker device which plugs into the dock connector, but was actually designed for use with the standard ipod (where it works to record voice quite ok), but i cannot get any apps to recognise the microphone on the touch.... so far have tried most of the freebies including skype, nimbuzz, fring, etc. I can call out, and hear voices on the speaker, but no-one can hear me, and cannot record voice on any apps either. This device is very similar to the griffin italk, I think - essentially I want it for skype via wi-fi. Any suggestions gratefully received. Any point in upgrading or downgrading the OS? QUOTE (loafidelity @ Thu Apr 16 2009, 06:23) Go to the original post I'm also using a macally ivoice iii with my 1st gen ipod touch. There have been a few inconsistant glitches (mic switching off when call is put on hold, and not switching back on when taken off hold) but it definitely works. The one complaint I have with this setup is that people I've called have said that the audio is very quiet, and I find myself having to speak very loudly to be heard clearly. There doesn't seem to be any line-in or recording volume setting either in the Skype app or the iPod's general settings. Maybe this is something that could be included in future versions of the app? |

I'd also like to use skype on an iPod Touch with a thumbtack mic and the speaker. Does anyone know if Skype have acknowledged the speaker issue with iPhone OS 3.0, and if they intend to fix it (if it's even possible with the new firmware)?
Also, a question for those that did have this working with earlier firmware. Did this work well for you, or did the person you were calling find they got an echo as the mic was so close to the speaker? |

I am using Shure's MPA-3C adapter with my iPod Touch. This essentially adds a microphone to any standard headset with a 1/8" plug. Skype works great with this mic, I've only encountered two minor issues:
- iPod Touch's speaker volume isn't loud enough for effective use as a speaker-phone. - A low-battery warning will terminate a call Other than that, no problems. Sound is good both ways, Skype's service is cheap and easy to use. It's almost like an iPhone without the monthly data plan! |
