I was afraid when I downloaded the latest version that an all too familiar thing would occur. . some of my favorite features have been removed. Why is there always a compromise in new versions??

First, my skin is gone . . I love color and style choices in applications so that hurts. . I want my jammies back!

Second, I found it very useful to see when some of my contacts had last been online by mousing over the contact. . the time and date, especially for those overseas contacts. Now that feature is gone. . . sad

I suppose it had something to do with a privacy rule or something.

Please bring back these features.

Quite often I'd like to share something I've been listening to over Skype, live.

I've learned fairly well how to juggle both my headphone and sound card devices under windows XP while using Skype (although I consider Windows sound interface pretty incoherent and muddled); e.g. I can play an .mp3 on my computer speakers _or_ mix it in with the voice I'm hearing over my Skype (Plantonics) headset (although in the latter case I cannot control relative volume of the skype caller's voice vs. music (<-help with that would also be appreciated.))

But I know of no way that music I play on my computer can also be sent over the skype connection so that the person I'm calling hears it too, except for the crude expedient of routing the music to my sound card/speakers and placing the headset mic close to the speakers.

I'm sure that others must have wanted to be able to send music or other audio sources live over the Skype connection as well. Anyone know how to do this?

One slightly related (less important) question (probably should be in another post, but oh well): Is there any way to mix in my own voice into what I'm hearing in the headphones? I'm used to this type of feedback from regular telephones.

I have not been able to perform a decent phone call in the past 6 weeks.

Your call suddenly either - get disconnected after 15 seconds and of course, you suck my money away for the whole minute

- it says the number does not exist, when they DO

- or it says that the number is busy when they AREN'T.

I have wasted money on NOTHING and the thing that really bothers me is that I have been RELYING on your service. There is nothing wrong with my computer. I have been using skype for about a year and it was okay. Just recently, it just takes my money and it cannot perform a decent call when I need it.
You might not like the things I say, well, I don't like the fact that the quality of the service has turned to horrible.

That's it, and I'm going to seek some Consumer Protection service - oh don't worry, there must be one.

skype 4.1 beta and video problems.

sometimes when i call a friend across the nation U.s. i freeze on his pc and he can't hear me and i get freezing of him on my pc. both using the latest beta version of 4.1 skype. could it be bandwidth? he has viao with 2ghz cpu.
i have xp pro
3 ghz dual quad cpu and 4 mb of ram.
is there a way of getting an older version of skype. one before beta?

Someone please make an ALT+4 for a Compact View Hot key... That does not minimize/put away your current messages or conversations and just removes that annoying profile/contacts/conversations bar that wont re-size for anything when in default mode....?

OR Improve the functionality of the Alt+1,Alt+2,Alt+3... By making the Bar disappear if it is hit again?

Apparently a firmware upgrade for the Nokia N97 was to include a built in Skype application. This was announced earlier this year following a partnering agreement between Nokia & Skype.

Does anyone have any idea if this will be included in v2 upgrade due out in about 4 weeks?

Specifically, instead of calling a mobile version of skype, I would like to be able to make video skype calls from the desktop to a mobile phone number as a video call instead of a voice call? Does anyone know whether that is possible?

It would be a great service for those people who travel a lot and want to see the kids while they are on the road...

I have a big problem. Yesterday I wanted to play a game through Skype with my friend, but my Skype version didn't had "extra manager" or whatever it calls. I had first official Skype 4 release after Skype 4 Beta. So, I decided to install Skype 3 from my computer because I didn't wanted to download anything at the moment. After I installed it I saw that all my contacts have disappeared. I thought it's a bug because of old Skype version. Then I downloaded newest Skype version 4.1.0.141 and installed it. But all my contact list was still empty. Then I thought if I'll add some contacts they all come back, but they didn't. Then I tried to restart Skype, logging on and off. Deleting Skype folder from app data. Nothing worked. Readed half of Skype forum and still nothing. I have sent support ticket, but no response. I had 91 contacts and now I have 3... I was using Skype for few years and it never happened before to me. Neither to my friends. If I'll try to rebuilt my contacts list I will find about 30 of them. I think you guys know how 13-15 year old teenagers are writing their names. All with special symbols, characters etc. Now I'm feeling fucked up. So, please maybe there is anyone who knows hot to fix this thing. I would be very happy.

Hello to all, do not know if this forum is the best place to say this, if I ask you advice on where to do so.
Let me suggest a little option to be added to Skype conference.
Each week (for 2 times a week) my association makes gatherings, users at home who can not present them connect via skype. And so far no problem.
I would however need to be able to participate from home, but when you get up from the mixer audio of our meeting room the channel of the PC, automatically feel that you want to talk, but also the other related, and this creates much confusion.

Then ask if it would be possible to add each user who is logged into a conference MUTE button, so you can get only those who wish to turn.
Without the MUTE button will stop to listen to their course.
What do you think?

On my client's site http://205.234.96.242/~bespokes the Skype add-on truncates the phone number from "020 7833 8000" to "020 78..."

This is not desirable, is there any way to style the width of the number highlighting to display the full number? I have seen full numbers displayed on some other sites.

Hi,
Is there any way to display both ANSI and UNICODE characters simultaneously in a Skype conversation?
My computer is "european" and I have some chat with some Korean (and Japanese)people.
When I cut and paste (sorry I don't know Korean) some Korean words, my mate receive them, but when he/she send them to me, I receive only boxes.
That's not really comfortable to read . . .
Any idea or function without re-inventing a nucleary central, please?

Recently upgraded to 4.0.0.226.
When I minimise to the system tray, I no longer get the orange flashing tab on the bottom toolbar, only a brief pop-up from the system tray, when someone tries to contact me for IM. This results in many ignored requests as I'm frequently away from my desk.
I've contacted the helpdesk - no reply...

In short, here's how the high DPI modes in Windows 7 work: 96 DPI is the normal mode, the 120 DPI mode is the same as in Windows XP, but the 144 DPI depends on whether the application specifies itself to be DPI-aware (via manifest or the SetProcessDPIAware API function). If the application declares itself to be DPI-aware, Windows 7 lets the application to scale itself, and if it doesn't, the window is scaled as a bitmap by the DWM.

Skype (I tested v. 4.0.0.226) declares itself to be DPI-aware (so the DWM scaling is disabled), but does not actually scale the UI! This is a usability disaster: Skype's UI elements become so small on 144 DPI screens that the whole application is almost unusable.

After that I installed Skepe 4.0 and it works fine with text chat, but it came with a problem that skype show me the message "skype cannot access your webcam" when I tried to have a video conference with my partner. I don't meet this problem in which another instant message program called Tencent QQ that widely used in China.

On the "old" Skype (where conversations were hold in seperate windows), one could go Start > Run and type "skype" or "skype.exe", hit Enter, and Skype would start. This can be done with many apps (try "winword", "msnmsgr", "iexplore", "winmine").

However in the latest version of Skype, you can't do that. It says: "Windows cannot find 'skype'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again"... which was to my great disappointment

Anyone know why that no longer happens?

While developing a Delphi application I noticed that i was unable to compile my application as something was using it. So i opened Process Explorer and noticed that skype had an open handle to my application among other applications.
So why is that so? Why skype opens handles to other executables?

I also noticed that used over 50% of cpu if my application was running...

I have the latest Skype beta 4 on a fully updated Vista system but each time I try to video call a contact it crashes immediately on connection. I have re-installed twice with the same result. I am very familiar with Skype and use it on my system frequently, this installation was on my parent's system and was the first time it was used. We have the same laptops.

I have attached a typical screenshot, however one time I got the following message if it helps:

I'm a newb to Skype so sorry if this is in the wrong section.
I'm having this issue on my Mac AND PC (both using ext dongle), so starting to wonder if it's a Hardware issue, not 100% sure which, but since the bluetooth dongle appears to be working (installed seen and broadcasting) fine, and seeing the Jabra and paring with it with nor probs, I'm "guessing it's the Jabra Headset (maybe needs a special tweak whiole being confifgured?) although could be that the Bluetooth dongle can't do audio (although I'm fairly sure it's bluetooth 2.0 & can do A2DP or whatever it is. It's lisetd as a Silicone wave Bluetooth wireless adaptor in Windows (bought as a generic dongle of eBay) HCI v2 Rev 2. LMP v2 SubVer 2, Manufacturer Id 40

Please please please can someone assist me. My husband lives on the other side of the world and this is the only way I get to chat to him as it is cost efficient. And it is the only way he gets to see his kiddies.

I am really hping someone can help me. I am using a Sahara laptop with Windows Vista. It runs off the same network as my home pc. My pc sounds are working, in that if I play games etc... I can hear the sounds. But, if someone calls me via skype, or if i call them, they can hear me, but I can't hear them.

I have re-downloaded Skype. I have been to my Control panel and everything looks a-ok there. I have been in to Skype options > tools> Sounds, and I can see the audio bar moving if i talk, and i can see it moving for others talking to me (incoming and outgoing sound), but nothing comes through my speakers.

It sounds silly, but I have made sure the speakers are on, and not on mute. I have checked the windows control panel for audio options, I have made sure the audio devide id the same as on skype. I am stomped. I don;t know how to get it working.

Please please please please please help....

What's the mean of packet loss in Tech Info Display

In Techincal Information Display, there are three parameters about loss: packet loss, sending loss and receiving loss...and for the latter two ones, they even have two numbers, and sometimes larger than 100%.

What's the meaning of these three parameters with 5 numbers? How can a loss ratio be larger than 100%?

Hi guys,

I used to play backgammon with my friends frequently, but now when I go to tools-extras-play games I can't find any of the games! I run windows xp and everything was fine until a week or so ago. I have now upgraded to Beta 4, but still no luck. If I try to download the game from here, it tells me I have to have at least version 3.0, so I really don't know what to do. Oh, and other people try to start the game with me from their computers but my computer won't allow me to play.

"Remove From Contacts" - doesn't work

Using version 3.6.0.248 and I cannot remove the contacts in my list that show a "?" symbol as have not shared details to me.

I click the contact with the "?" symbol and then in the menu I click the "Remove From Contacts" where the rubbish bin shows etc., but each time I log in again those contacts "?" are back in my contact list again.

After deleting the "?" contacts again, I "Saved to File" on my PC, but when I log in again later, those "?" contacts are there again.

Any suggestions?

Skype 3.8.0.96 version - No Extras?

I have downloaded and I have been using Skype version 3.8.0.96 since using the 3.6.0.248 version.

I have just noticed the that the new version 3.8.0.96 BETA does not show in my menu "Tools" and "Do More" the Extras. The "Do More" is greyed out and not working, so I cannot click it to see my extras.

Has anyone noticed this problem?

How do I remove the SkypeCast contact number from my contact list?

+9900111891936000000 (Sample number with zeros shown instead of actual numbers)

I have tried the menu and clicking "Remove from All Contacts", as well as right mouse button over the contact name bar and clicking "Remove from All Contacts".

I have no SkypeCast events current in my "Your SkypeCasts" list either. It's an old SkypeCast in my Contacts List, that I can not remove.

Could someone point me to a _complete_ description of the data presented in the Technical Call info? I think I understand a good portion of it, but I want the official interpretation so I don't have to assume and be incorrect about my assumptions. It would help me diagnose issues when I have a bad call and to identify the bottleneck.

e.g.
How are the numbers inside the parentheses related to the ones outside? What are the unit of measures? What is it exactly measuring? What is are the acceptable ranges and what happens when you are outside of those ranges?
