I have never had any trouble with my own Skype, simple installation, simple operation.

However I have been helping a friend who has just connected to broadband, He is running a Windows XP on a Dell computer. The installation went as expected, no problem -- we registered him and logged on but find that we cannot initiate a call because the Green Call Button seems to be inactive. The button is a lighter green than the regular active button and does nothing when clicked on. I have explored 'settings' but can find nothing that might explain this.

Can anyone help?

Bill Wright

I hadn't used it since and decided to test it again before heading overseas tomorrow, but now there is no audio on my side. It does not ring on incoming calls and during connected calls, I cannot hear the person on the other side whether I make the call, or they do. But I can be heard on the other side just fine. I've tried with and without a wired headset - no difference.

The speaker does work on the phone for regular cell calls, so its not a problem with the phone speaker. Is there a setting that I'm missing to turn on/up audio within Skype?

Windows 2003 SkypeMobile.CAB is not a valid Windows CE Setup file.

My company is SLOWLY working toward delivering updated hardware. Since we write our own software for these devices, it takes a while to roll out the new. In the meantime, I am still using an iPaq 41xx series. It's still a great little unit but it gets low priority with new and updated software rollouts simply because of it's age.

I've been a Skype user for years on my laptop, and I thought it would be nice to dig up a VOIP program for the old familiar but it ain't a workin' none too good. I've checked around the forums and found others have been here before me, so I thought 'surely its fixed' but the same error they were complaining about is still popping up for me at the recommended link/download. Its the same headache my company's programmers have been banging their heads against. CE 2003 doesn't like 3rd party software. 2 things need to be taken into account for Skype capable units. 1 Since the vast majority are wifi capable it only makes sense to directly download the software via the wifi connection. Why not make that the primary means of acquiring the software? 2 Vista does not like the old ActiveSync program and my shiny new laptop is practically worthless for connectivity with it's 64 bit OS. Remind me to take Billy Gates out behind the woodshack again. Outdated equipment is often outdated by artificial upgrades. Vista is not backwards functional. Wanna bet Windows 7 will not work with 2005, 2006 products?... Anyone?... Anyone at all?...

Anyway, have I missed it? Is there a fix for the Windows CE 2003 download?

Looking for a cheaper solution can skype help me?

After doing some research, I found it'd be much cheaper to get a phone with just a data plan in conjunction with an unlimited subscription with skype. So far the best option would be to go with AT&T which is only 35.00 for an affordable data plan and then to get a phone with windows mobile because I think Skype mobile works best with the windows mobile OS.

This is the phone I'm considering:
http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-phone-ser..._sku=sku4000289

here is the data plan information:
http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-phone-ser...sonal-plans.jsp

so my question is, will skype mobile work with the HTC pure which runs on windows mobile 6.5??

and is this even feasible?!?! are there better options? I'm not entirely educated on the matter, but around December I'll have to make up my mind. So if you can help point me in the right direction, that'd be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

2-way SMS

This may already be known, however I was hoping to shed light on the fact that several IM services offer two-way sms. I know AIM and Yahoo Instand messengers are both capable of this. I was hoping this information may help your teams bridge the gap between skype and other communication standards. It is my hope people will look into those services if they haven't already.
Currently I used AIM to for SMS. I like the interface on Pocker PC and it supplements my lack of that service with skype well. The down fall is that everyone has to remember to use a second number to send me sms. Also, I have to put contacts in twice, individually for both the AIM and Skype apps.
Both services I mentioned offer sms services for free, definetly a plus. However I'd gladly pay low-sms rates if they had the convenience of being directly tied to my Skype account.
There are rumors of google voice providing a number to bridge all services from different providers for free, I am very excited about this, however I am sure it would still be more efficient to have Voice and 2-way SMS through skype.
Do you think we can develop upon the methods Yahoo and AIM use? Thank you for your time and please let me know if this information seems helpful.

My only problem is that non of the available devices has a web browser, which is sad not only because it would be nice to check e-mails, read news, check maps, weather, etc. but also because many hotspots require web login, and many free ones require you to accept conditions before using. So I decided to solve the problem by purchasing a non skype dedicated PDA, but so far haven't yet found the perfect device.
One candidate is the 3rd generation iPod touch. Has great touchscreen, looks like a phone... and the annoying thing is right that every technical detail is given, but apple just doesn't want its users to be happy, so doesn't allow skype to run in the background and didn't include a built-in microphone. So it's fine if I only want to make calls, I'll just start skype and put on the headset, but if I also want to be reachable, it means I can't use anything else and have to carry the headset all the time :S
My other candidate is the HP ipaq 111, which has none of the above mentioned disadvantages, but a little bigger, has less memory and less nice interface. Not to mention that I have to use a stylus for it :S
Does anyone have any other recommendation?
Thanks

I hunted and waited, hunted and waited for months looking for a wifi cell phone without a forced data plan so I could use it as a home phone with my skype. Finally got one yesterday. Loaded Skype 3.0 and everything went fine until I made a call and the audio came out the speaker phone. THEN I read these forums....

If I had only known that Skype wouldn't work on cell phones earlier...

Is there any workarounds for a verizon xv6800 (HTC Titan)??
Help with my Mogul (HTC 6800)

I recently downloaded Skype Mobile for my Mogul. Here is my problem... I am deployed to Afghanistan using a Sprint phone. I have managed to tether my phone to my computer to use the internet from the computer to run IE on the phone. However, it will not allow me to log into Skype. Does anyone know what the issue may be? How can I get Skype to actively use the tethered connection? I have Skype on my laptop, so it isn't really a big deal if no one has an answer, but it would be more comfortable if I were able to use my phone to make the calls. I would appreciate any assistance in this matter... Thank you all for taking your time...

Using SkypeOut from cell phone?

Hey guys,

I'm pretty new to Skype, I'm going off to school in September and the school reccomended it to help stay in touch with people, so I looked into it a bit and saw how cheap it was to get a SkypeOut subscription and signed up right away.

Then I got thinking, it'd be cool if I could get Skype on my cell phone, and then use the SkypeOut service to make calls... At less than $3 a month for SkypeOut I'd save a lot of money!

So my question to you guys is, is this possible? From what I've read I know you can get skype on your mobile phone... But can you use it like I described? Use your SkypeOut service to make calls to landlines/other mobile phones and not get charged by the cell phone service provider for making the call?

Thanks for your time

I think Skype has worked on some of these phones in other countries, but not sure if it works on these phones in the U.S., using Verizon.
