Skype and telephony device card

Hi all.

I see all sorts of information about usb connection adapters (Rj-11) for home phones, but what can I do to utilize an old (d-link???) telephony card.

I'm using Gentoo linux and have telephony device support built in the kernel, but I am wondering what else I may need to do to get this to work with Skype.

I'm naively assuming it will not be "plug and play".

Thank you for any info you can provide me.

Hey forum,

I installed today Fedora 12 x86_64. Sound was going flawlessly! But in order to stay in touch with my friends, I had install Skype (2.1.0.47). As assumed, I had also to install all the nasty 32-libraries...

Ta-dah! Now the sound is not working

I'm pretty disappointed with the way how Skype is treating 64-bit Linux users...

When will Skype for Linux hurry up and get up-to-date?

This is one thing that has always bothered me since the day I started using Linux (Ubuntu) and now that I have completely switched to Linux and no longer use Windows it's a huge pain in the butt. Why is Skype for Linux so extremely out of date? I can understand it being behind compared to Windows and Mac versions because less people use Linux but the latest Windows version is 4.1.0.179 while for Linux it's only 2.1.0.47! That's unacceptable. I do not like the old-fashion interface of the Linux version compared to the Windows version. I'm sorry if I seem a bit mad, I don't mean to and I'm not, this just bugs me and I'm to the point I'm thinking about quitting Skype if this is how little they care of their users that use less-popular operating systems. Funny thing is I'm planning on quitting Skype to use only MSN and MSN was made by Microsoft (the people that hate Linux) yet it's better on Linux then Skype is. Though when you think about it MSN beats Skype no matter what version or operating system you have, it gives you an email, instant messaging, online profile (similar to MySpace), 25GiB online storage, calendar for appointments, that all is only off the top of my head, while Skype is only a simple instant messenger, if MSN takes Skypes feature to edit messages you already sent then I'm gone for good. Lol. To anyone that agrees with me on this or can explain why Skype is so slow at updating their program then thanks for posting.

Internet blocked while Skype is on

This week I installed Skype on my laptop-computer (Ubuntu 8.04). It worked fine: I could hear the pre-recorded message of Skype and I also was able to hear my own recorded message. But then I found out that I no longer could use internet. All my browsers fail to make a connection with the internet. After I closed the Skype-programme I could use the internet again. Is this nothing to worry about or should I make some changes in the Skype-configuration???
